The FDA's decision to impose new hurdles on vaccine approval, including requiring Novavax to run another full clinical trial for its updated COVID-19 vaccine, puts lives at risk and threatens the future health of our country.

Novavax’s shot, based on traditional protein technology, offers a critical alternative to mRNA vaccines and has already proven itself safe and effective through large-scale clinical trials involving 30,000 participants.

For years, both flu and updated COVID-19 vaccines have been routinely adjusted to target new strains without requiring full new trials. Changing the rules now, when updated protection is urgently needed, is irresponsible.

Former health officials and leading vaccine experts have warned that these new bureaucratic roadblocks appear politically motivated rather than based on scientific necessity. The consequences will be devastating. Millions could lose timely access to vital vaccines, especially vulnerable populations like children, the elderly, and those with underlying conditions.

There are already serious concerns that upcoming vaccines, including potential bird flu vaccines, could face similar unjustified delays. Americans will be left exposed to deadly viruses without the protections that modern science can provide.

We must demand that the FDA return to a science-based, timely, and responsible approval process. Vaccines save lives. Slowing them down for political reasons is reckless and dangerous.
