I speak to you today out of deep concern for the dire situation in our community. As a devoted animal lover and a tax-paying resident of El Paso, TX, I have been witness to the growing neglect and mismanagement at our local animal service, overseen by its current director, Terry K.  Our beloved pets, strays, and abandoned animals are being treated harshly, their wellness and care seeming of little importance to those holding authority. This is not only a disheartening sight, but it also poses a significant waste of our hard-earned tax dollars. Animals are still not being picked up and we are overwhelmed with stray pets.

In the past year alone, I have encountered numerous heartbreaking incidents of neglected animals that were under the jurisdiction of the El Paso animal services. These creatures, who have no voice of their own, deserve not just sympathy, but efficient care and nurturing, which has been overlooked under the current management.

It's high time we address the deplorable statistics. The city of El Paso has a higher-than-average rate of animal euthanasia, compared to other US cities of comparable size. A significant share of the tax dollars and grants dedicated to animal services appears to vanish without achieving its intended purpose. Every dollar wasted is a lost opportunity to improve conditions for animals, provide education to prevent neglect, and enforce laws against abuse. The staff is working is HORRIBLE conditions that ANY OSHA inspector would fine and shut down a facility. A HIGH turnover because Terry and Michelle don’t know hiw to manage themselves out of a wet paper bag and animals and staff are paying the price!!

For the sake of our moral responsibility to these defenseless beings, and in the interest of judicious spending of our public funds, I appeal for your immediate action to dismiss the current director at the El Paso Animal Services. Together, we can ensure our lovely city of El Paso is a refuge for animals, not a place of neglect.
