Demand the Department for Work and Pensions to Return Confiscated Assets of Unpaid Carers

The Issue

I write this petition as an affected unpaid carer. Living on a carer's allowance of just £333.20 per month, I deeply understand the plight faced by many similar to me. Vulnerable individuals are being unfairly prosecuted during times when they need help and support. A substantial number of unpaid carers had their assets confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act; not due to fraud, but a simple oversight which they were unaware of. These unpaid carers should never have been criminalized for a situation they did not understand.

According to Carers UK, approximately 6.5 million people in the UK are carers, which equates to 10% of the population. It is unethical and unjust that such a significant portion of the population should continue suffering such harsh penalties for a mere oversight.

Our demand is clear. We urge the Department for Work and Pensions to rectify this situation. The confiscated assets of unpaid carers must be returned immediately. No one should bear the brunt of unintended mistakes, especially those who selflessly devote their time and energy to care for others. Please, sign this petition and support the fight for justice and fairness for unpaid carers.
