Demand the ASLA to Address Racial and Colonial Legacies in Landscape Architecture

La causa

We approach the Board Members of the American Society of Landscape Architecture with a highly significant matter. The practice of landscape architecture has historically been under the sway of a white male gaze, resulting in serious impacts on its development. This truth was brought to light even more starkly through our project, "Plantation Futures." Now is the time to earnestly introspect and bring about changes vital to address the racial and colonial damage done to our profession. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics substantiates this skewed representation, showing that roughly 77% of landscape architects are white, with an overwhelming majority being male. This homogeneity not only impedes inclusivity but also the broadening of perspectives necessary in such a wide-ranging field. We request the board to implement substantial measures to rectify these systemic issues and foster a more diverse landscape architecture practice that is representative of all races, genders, and backgrounds. Please sign this petition to bring meaningful change to our profession.
