Huge news: Whistleblowers come forward to confirm tampering took place during the study being used to make dangerous Canadian breast screening guidelines
At last the truth is finally getting out there.
For 30 years, it has been suspected that the study used by our government to prevent women in their 40s from getting mammograms was corrupted. Now it's been confirmed by former staff who worked on the study.
We now have testimony from 28 eyewitnesses that confirm major errors and the poor quality of the study, which destroy its value as a source of reliable evidence about screening.
Former staff on the study, ranging from radiologists, nurses, mammogram technologists, and surgeons have described severe problems, including how the randomization was tampered with. Subversion of the randomization discredits the study results. The study must no longer be used to make guidelines. The Canadian guidelines impact women worldwide.
Sadly, it is too late for the tens of thousands of women who have died due to lack of access to regular screening in their 40s and thus late detection of breast cancer.
But it is not too late to take immediate action on revising the guidelines to be based on valid and current evidence and expert input.
There has been a commentary published this week by leading Canadian and US experts https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/09691413211059461 and there has been extensive national media coverage this week and some links can be seen here https://mybreastscreening.ca/media/
We need our health minister to act immediately. We cannot accept the lack of accountability from our government while women continue to die.
