Yesterday, in the House of Commons, the NDP Health Critic, Don Davies, MP for Vancouver-Kingsway, stood up for the women of Canada. He asked our Health Minister, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, why she has not suspended the dangerous breast cancer screening guidelines, made by the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care, which is funded under her portfolio. These guidelines are followed by our 36 000 family doctors across the country.
The Minister of Health responded with misleading statements:
1. She called the Task Force members experts, but the Task Force has NO breast cancer screening experts and its members actually ignored the input from breast cancer screening experts.
2. The Minister said that the government provided support to the Task Force, but that the Task Force makes their guidelines independently and "as such the guidelines are NOT OFFICIAL government guidelines." Hmmm, then what are they?
3. The Minister stated her top priority is protecting the health and safety of all Canadians, but thousands of Canadian women will die if these guidelines are followed.
The Minister has the power to stop risking Canadian lives. Please SHARE this petition and help us get the message to Ginette Petitpas Taylor that Canadian lives matter and that she should immediately suspend these harmful guidelines.
