Demand that Rep. Underwood vote against sending U.S. aid to Israel!

Demand that Rep. Underwood vote against sending U.S. aid to Israel!
The Issue
While Representative Lauren Underwood (14th District, IL) has said in a press release that she supports an extended ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and is concerned for the safety of civilian lives in Gaza, she has failed to sign onto H. Res. 786, the Ceasefire Now Resolution, which urges the Biden Administration to call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine, and to send humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Rep. Underwood has also pledged her uncritical support toward the Biden administration’s $105 billion funding request for military aid to Israel and Ukraine and for further militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border, knowing full well that the billions of dollars sent to Israel will be used to further decimate Gaza in what humanitarian agencies and experts are calling a genocide.
In a phone call last week, Underwood stated that there is “no situation in which [she] will vote against” the funding bill.
Representative Underwood, you cannot claim to care for civilian life while also funding the killing of said civilians by voting to send more military aid to Israel.
Israel’s government has historically violated human rights and international law, as reported by credible organizations like the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and even Israeli organizations; B’Tselem, Association for Civil Rights in Israel, Gisha, and more.
What is happening in Gaza is a crisis of a horrific, unimaginable scale. The Israeli government's bombardment and siege of Palestinians in Gaza has killed over 17,000 Palestinians, including over 6,000 children.
But despite condemnation of Israel by the United Nations and the international community, Representative Underwood is continuing to support our tax dollars going toward Israel’s human rights violations.
The U.S.’s historic allyship with Israel should not be without scrutiny. Rep. Underwood, stand up for basic human rights and international law. We demand accountability for where our money goes and what it supports, and your support of Israel does not represent us.
Representative Underwood, sign onto the Ceasefire Now Resolution and vote against sending more military aid to Israel now.
