Demand Switzerland to Reinstate Full Funding for the 2025 Uefa Women's EUROS

The Issue

The recent decision by the Swiss government to drastically reduce funding for the 2025 Uefa Women's European Championships is a blow to women's sports. This major tournament, originally allocated a budget of 15 million francs (£13.5million), has seen its funding cut down to a mere four million (£3.6m). This move sends an alarming message about how women's sports are valued and supported.

Women’s sport is on the rise globally, with increasing viewership and participation rates. For instance, FIFA reported that the 2019 Women’s World Cup attracted more than one billion viewers worldwide. Such growth signifies that women's sports deserve equal support and investment as their male counterparts.

We urge Switzerland to uphold their initial commitment or alternatively pass on hosting duties to a country willing to fully support this prestigious event. It is crucial not only for fair play but also for encouraging future generations of female athletes who look up these tournaments as inspiration.

Please sign this petition urging Switzerland not only reinstate full funding but also reaffirm their commitment towards promoting equality in sports.
