The Issue

In the state of Alabama, we, a group deeply pained by animal injustices, voice our concerns about the rampant abuse of animals. We constantly witness animals being subjected to deplorable conditions, including, but not limited to, roaming animals(many are aggressive), dog and cock fighting, a lack of adequate shelter, owners refusing vet care for injured or sick animals, dumping animals in the streets, and negligent over-breeding due to negligent owners who refuse to spay and neuter their pets. The situation is further aggravated by the absence of laws against these activities, and/or if there are laws against them, the consequences for breaking those laws are not strong enough. This has become even more personal due to this being such a common occurrence in our community, and the absence of consequences encourages the continuance of these inhumane practices.

Despite nationwide efforts and various animal welfare organizations tirelessly advocating for animal rights, these issues persist. A study by Animal Legal Defense Fund revealed Alabama ranks among the bottom tier in state rankings for animal protection laws. This is unacceptable, and it's time we demand change.

We assert that this petition isn't an attack on responsible pet owners, but rather a call to action against the negligent ones, those who turn a blind eye to their failing duties. We believe all animals deserve humane treatment and care. They too, like us, experience fear and pain, and their welfare should be safeguarded, not compromised.

We implore our state representatives to enact and enforce more detailed laws regarding what constitutes as abuse and neglect and to enact stronger penalties for those convicted of animal cruelty and neglect. This change will not only protect innocent animals but also foster compassion and respect for all life in our society. It's time for Alabama to lead in animal rights protection.

Join us in insisting on this crucial change. Let's bring justice to the voiceless. Sign this petition now.
