Gov. Henry McMaster and his wife Peggy have been members of an exclusive historically "Whites Only" country club in Columbia South Carolina for over thirty years.

This petition seeks to demand that the South Carolina Governor address his continued complicity through his physical presence and financial funding of a Whites-Only Country Club in Columbia SC, for over 30 years while the club was segregated until 2017. The Governor is still a member.

We ask that the Gov. address his constituents and taxpaying citizens of South Carolina by publicly calling for an end to segregated private professional and civic organizations. We believe that Gov. McMaster should also, in good faith, make good on his years of financial support to systemic racist organizations in South Carolina by donating an equivalent of 30 years worth of the Forest Club's dues to causes and organizations that advance the equity of People of Color in the State of South Carolina. The McMasters were donors to the club for dues and other membership fees for 30 years while the club was segregated and a bastion of systemic racism in the state. 

The club, Forest Lake Country Club of Columbia, only admitted it's first non-white member in 2017 (McMaster won the gubernatorial race in South Carolina in 2018).  Gov. McMaster has been complicit with racism in the state through his continued membership and financial funding of the club. This, despite whistleblowing reports from national press (Washington Post, et al) that go back to 1987 and beyond.

We believe that the elitist, and 90 year racist history of segregation of Forest Lake Club and the McMaster family's continued financial support showcases that the McMaster family condones systemic racism. If McMaster fails to hold himself and his family accountable for their complicity in racist elitism, he is no longer fit for the office of Governor of the State of South Carolina.

Gov McMaster, words are not enough. You must vocalize your opposition to systemic racism in professional organizations like the Forest Lake Country Club, at home in South Carolina and elsewhere.
