The Issue

My daughter and her three children were evicted from their privately rented home where they had lived for four years, because the landlord wanted the property back. Now they are stuck in a mouldy, rat-infested place managed by SSJ Housing Unfortunately, my one-year-old grandson has developed asthma, likely due to the persistent mould exposure, and has had multiple hospital admissions. This is not just unhealthy; it's outright dangerous.

Rushmoor Council is failing its residents by placing homeless families in properties with these appalling conditions. When families like mine move into such accommodations, they are shifted to housing band 3, effectively decreasing their priority for safer, long-term housing. Furthermore, by advertising studio flats as 0-bedroom properties while designating a small room in places like Clayton Court as a bedroom, Rushmoor Council is manipulating housing regulations to prolong these families' wait times for decent housing.

Statistics show that families in Aldershot, UK, are facing an average wait of three years for appropriate housing. Meanwhile, these vulnerable people are forced to live in extremely hazardous conditions. Research from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) states that exposure to damp and mould can exacerbate health problems, especially in children.

It's crucial for Rushmoor Council to rethink its policies and prioritize clean, safe living environments for all residents, regardless of their housing band. We demand immediate action to reassess the housing bands unfairly assigned to families living in inadequate housing and accelerate their reassignment to more habitable homes.

Join us in raising our voice to urge Rushmoor Council to take immediate, effective steps to ensure that no family in Aldershot has to suffer like my daughter and grandchildren. Please sign this petition to demand accountability and a swift resolution to this pressing issue.
