This petition is borne out of a personal affront that an individual and his aunt, in an act of unfiltered cruelty, was able to encourage their dogs to maul a helpless kangaroo joey and proceed to bash its head on the ground, live on TikTok. Adding salt to the wound, he continues his presence on TikTok, unimpeded and possibly profiting from this ruthless act. Such an offence against defenseless wildlife cannot be taken lightly and certainly not treated, by any circumstances, as entertainment.

Acts of animal cruelty are a serious offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 in NSW. The Act dictates that a person who beats, abuses, or kills an animal could face imprisonment for up to 5 years and/or a penalty of up to $22,000 (Source: NSW Government). Despite such regulations designed to protect the right of animals, cases of animal cruelty continue to increase in Australia. Humane Society International reported a 42% increase in such cases from 2014 to 2018 in Australia (Source: Humane Society International).

We are pressing the RSPCA NSW to enforce the law and demand TikTok to take action against such abuse. We implore the RSPCA to arrest and prosecute the people involved in this abhorrent act promptly. We also call on TikTok to not only ban such users from the platform but also incorporate stricter measures to prevent the broadcasting of animal cruelty in any form on their platform.
