Nintendo has created a universe filled with unique, well-loved characters — each with their own name, identity, and role in the world. So it’s deeply disappointing to see a new playable character in the upcoming Mario Kart game referred to simply as “Cow.”

This is more than a naming oversight — it’s a sign of inconsistency and disrespect. In the Mario universe, no character is reduced to a label. Toad is not called “Mushroom,” Yoshi is not “Dinosaur,” and Donkey Kong is not “Gorilla.” Names give characters dignity and identity. To deny this to one character — especially a fan-favorite species from Moo Moo Meadows — sends the message that she is less important, less individual, and less worthy.

The cows of Moo Moo Meadows have been part of Mario Kart’s charm for years. If one of them is finally joining the race, she deserves to be treated like any other character — with a proper name that fits the tone and tradition of the series. “MooMoo” is not only fitting, it’s respectful.
