This petition is deeply personal to me. My father, a man of word, kindness, and an innate desire to help others when needed, is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Louisiana's FCI Oakdale 2 for nonviolent drug charges. He accepted his charges without protest but now finds himself battling against an entirely different kind of injustice - the violation of his basic human rights.

Inmates at this facility are being denied their fundamental rights simply because they are immigrants. They suffer from neglect and are silenced when trying to voice out the injustices they endure daily. Meals are provided not on a regular schedule but whenever the guards feel like it, creating an environment where basic needs become unpredictable and uncertain.

Moreover, these inmates are not being allowed to attend programs that they're both required and eligible for - programs designed to aid their early release. This denial directly contradicts the Bureau’s own mission statement which emphasizes correctional excellence through programs that provide inmates with skills needed to reduce future criminal behavior (Federal Bureau of Prisons).

The situation at FCI Oakdale 2 is dire and requires immediate attention. We must demand respect for inmate rights regardless of their immigration status or why they're incarcerated in the first place.

Esta negación contradice directamente la propia declaración de misión de la Oficina, que enfatiza la excelencia correccional a través de programas que brindan a los reclusos las habilidades necesarias para reducir el comportamiento criminal futuro (Oficina Federal de Prisiones). La situación en FCI Oakdale 2 es grave y requiere atención inmediata. Debemos exigir respeto por los derechos de los reclusos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio o del motivo por el que están encarcelados en primer lugar.
