We are outraged by the recent rise in hate incidents in West Orange. Despite the town's proclaimed dedication to fighting all forms of hatred, it appears there is a blind spot when it comes to Islamophobia. Voices and concerns pertinent to the Muslim and Palestinian communities have been entirely neglected and dismissed from the conversation – this is no less than heartbreaking and unjust.

In just the last year, the U.S. has experienced a significant uptick in anti-Muslim hate crimes, exemplifying the turmoil our communities face daily. It is inequalities like these that showcase the urgent need for local governments to take immediate action. Therefore, we are calling upon the West Orange Town Council to pass a resolution that explicitly denounces Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism. 

This is not just a plea for a fairer treatment, but a demand for basic human rights; the rights that every resident of West Orange, regardless of their religious affiliation, is entitled to.
