The Issue

When racism comes from an elected official, silence becomes complicity.

Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla’s offensive remarks directed at Kylian Mbappé were not simply an insult to one of the world’s greatest athletes—they sent a message that racial prejudice can be excused from the halls of public office. That is unacceptable.

Public officials are entrusted with representing every member of society with dignity, fairness, and respect. When they instead use their platform to demean others through racially charged rhetoric, they betray that trust. Leadership demands integrity. Racism disqualifies it.

This petition is about more than Kylian Mbappé. It is about the kind of society we choose to build. Around the world, millions continue to face discrimination because of the color of their skin. Every racist remark from someone in power reinforces that injustice, legitimizes intolerance, and tells future generations that prejudice carries no consequences.

Enough.

If there is no accountability, there is no deterrence. If racism is tolerated in government, it becomes normalized. We cannot allow elected officials to hide behind their titles while promoting division and disrespect.

We therefore call on Senator Celeste Amarilla to resign from office. Public office is a privilege—not a shield from accountability. Those who promote racism should not be entrusted with representing the people.

Demand accountability. Reject racism. Stand for dignity, equality, and respect.
