Character.AI was once the leading roleplay AI community in the world, celebrated for its innovation and community-driven spirit. It boasted a thriving user base and was highly rated in app stores. However, over the past year, under the leadership of CEO Kandreep Anand, it has unfortunately declined to become one of the lowest-rated apps in both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. This stark drop in reputation and user satisfaction is not a reflection of the app's potential but rather of misguided leadership and broken promises.

Upon assuming leadership, Kandreep Anand announced a bold 60-day roadmap filled with promises of enhanced memory functionality, upgraded model performance, clearer content guidelines, and improved discovery tools for user-generated characters. He also proposed immersive multimedia features which were meant to revolutionize the user experience. This vision was promising and instilled hope in the community.

However, a year has passed since these promising declarations and none of these commitments have been actualized. Instead of delivering on these goals, we have witnessed litterally the exact oppposite of each one of these promises happen. The very features that were supposed to enhance usability are either non-existent or poorly executed, leaving users disillusioned and skeptical about the platform's future.

These issues, alongside massive censorship that has effectively disabled NSFW chats (which was the app's main attractive), the creation of useless features that consume egregious amounts of money for the company, the greediness seen in the overload of ads and the fact that to have basic features you either need to subscribe to Character.AI+ or do microtransactions, copyright issues preventing users chatting with their favorite fictional characters 'coz the IP's owner company has removed all of 'em (and instead of reaching a deal to gain the rights to use characters from a certain franchise, the company does nothing), and the tone deafness towards the community's demands have ruined the app. but we can still reverse the damages

It is time for a change in leadership. A new direction under a leader who is truly committed to realizing the potential of Character.AI is essential. We need someone who will prioritize the user's experience, address the app's current issues with urgency, and restore its former glory by making actionable and transparent changes, and it shall be chosen democratically by all the users.
