To the esteemed bill sponsor and co-sponsors,

We recognize your Democratic symbolism over substance. Why pass a blatantly illegal, unconstitutional bill and then use taxpayer funds for a commission? I ask this question sincerely as you are the lawmakers.

All of you must know race-based compensation can never and will NEVER become law, as we have seen with the overturning of DEI and affirmative action. Labeling it "African descent" doesn’t change its race-based nature.

Why would you, the esteemed legislators, pass a bill that can't and won't survive legal scrutiny? Especially when Ed Blum has already vowed to pick it apart. The FBA Freedmen have faced many obstacles in this country for centuries, and we recognize the repeated strategy of the Democrats to draft unpassable bills and then set them up for Republicans to vote them down. In California, when the bill was constitutionally sound, the Black democratic legislators refused to bring the bill for a vote. They refused to second the motion put forth by a Republican, making crystal clear the true intention of the legislators to sabotage our reparations.

The ignoring of the US Freedmen Projects' bill, which is working with the writers of the California Reparations Bill and has the recipients based on our constitutionally sound status as Freedmen, is telling. We can see the inability of legislators to see themselves benefiting from this legal bill, and now you fellow people of color are denying, delaying and dismissing our rightful claim.

I think it's time we address the elephant in the room. We are owed back pay from a state, a country, a government that rose to power on the Freedmen's unpaid labor. After welcoming the diaspora, why would the sitting legislators, many of whom are Black and Brown people or people of color, play games, attempt to use time-wasting tactics, and trick or sabotage Freedmen out of their birthright?

As listed in our constitutionally sound bill, reparations should be in the form of, but not limited to, cash payments for the recipients the Freedmen. Provable by the ability for the persons to be currently classified Black and trace their lineage back to the 1870 census.
