Demand Reparative Justice for Black American Descendants of US Chattel Slavery

The Issue

As a Black American Descendant of US Chattel Slavery, I write today to address an ongoing issue that has been pressing on my community and me for centuries – the lack of reparative justice for the atrocities committed against our ancestors. My community and I have been subjected to the lingering effects of a painful past, and we are yet to receive the due acknowledgment and reparations that we rightfully need and deserve.

In addressing this historical wrong, the Black American Descendant Community demands that the United States Federal Government resolve the debt owed. We call for direct cash payments, land, lineage protection, mental health provisions, financial education, and Freedmen status tax exemptions. Specifically, our cash demand is 2 million dollars upfront and $25,000 per month for the coming 250 years for every Black American Descendant of US Chattel Slavery dating back to 1865 or before. Our plea is based solely on lineage.

While these demands might seem extensive to some, they are but a small step towards repairing the deep-seated damage caused by systematic and institutionalized racism that has befallen our community. We must remember that for over 200 years, Black Americans were subjected to the inhumane institution of slavery, a historical wrong that still reverberates in the form of rampant ethnic disparities and social injustices.

The provision of reparative justice will not only rectify centuries of discrimination but also significantly boost America's economy. Studies show that reparations could potentially add a substantial amount to the U.S. GDP over ten years (Darity & Mullen, 2020). Furthermore, this initiative will address broader societal issues such as homelessness, underfunded education, and crime rates.

Recognizing these acts against humanity with the due reparations will highlight America's commitment to justice and equality. So, we urge you to stand with us and sign this petition, demanding what is long overdue – justice for the Black American Descendants of US chattel slavery Community.
