The Issue

A member of my family has been the target of hateful and false accusations on a public noticeboard. This anonymous post has not only caused significant emotional distress but also tarnished their reputation unfairly. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident; many others have suffered similarly due to the lack of moderation on such platforms.

Online noticeboards, while serving as a convenient means of communication, have become breeding grounds for malicious content when left unmonitored. The absence of administration or oversight means anyone can post potentially damaging content without accountability. This not only threatens the well-being of individuals targeted by such posts but also undermines the credibility and purpose of these platforms.

Studies indicate that unmoderated online spaces contribute significantly to the spread of false information and cyberbullying. In 2020, a report by the Cyberbullying Research Center found that 15% of online users have encountered malicious content targeting them personally. Moreover, the availability of anonymous posting often emboldens individuals to spread false information, knowing that there will be no consequences.

To stop this cycle of harm, we urgently need to take down noticeboards that lack administration. This will curb anonymous posts that contain hateful content, safeguarding individuals from being unjustly attacked. By doing so, we promote a safer and more respectful online environment for all users.

I urge the community and platform operators to recognize the damage inflicted by these unmoderated spaces and consider the implementation of strict oversight or complete removal of platforms that fail to protect users from harm. Join me in calling for change to ensure the online sphere we engage with is not only informative but also safe and respectful.

Please sign this petition to demand the removal of unmoderated noticeboards and end the spread of hateful anonymous posts.
