The Issue

My neighbors and I who live near (and are forced to drive through) Hunting Valley and Gates Mills have been the victims of financial exploitation due to the traffic cameras installed in these two communities. These cameras, under the guise of maintaining safety, have instead transformed into tools of greed and profit for the local administration.

We have seen countless residents unjustly penalized with expensive traffic fines, impacting our daily lives and financial stability. These traffic cameras are strategically placed not necessarily at accident-prone areas but rather in locations where they can issue the most tickets and subsequently generate the most revenue. This raises the question: are they truly for public safety, or merely economic gain?

Research has shown that while traffic cameras can lead to a decrease in certain types of accidents, their primary effect has been to boost local governments' budgets at the expense of residents. In cities across the country, similar practices have sparked public outcry due to the disproportionate financial burdens placed on ordinary citizens, with minimal evidence of increased safety. This means we are not alone–this is part of a pattern of misguided traffic enforcement policies.

We propose the immediate removal of these traffic cameras and a thorough review of better, more transparent ways to ensure road safety without causing financial strain. Alternative solutions exist, such as increasing the presence of live law enforcement officers, implementing more effective driver education programs, or enhancing signage and road infrastructure. These measures can effectively improve safety without the unjust penalization of our community members.

We call on the authorities of Hunting Valley and Gates Mills to put their citizens' well-being first. It's time to end the unnecessary exploitation of traffic cameras and explore fairer, more effective solutions. Please join us in demanding the removal of these traffic cameras to protect our community from further financial exploitation and to promote genuine safety initiatives.

Sign this petition to let your voice be heard and take a stand against unjust traffic enforcement in Hunting Valley and Gates Mills. Together, we can create a fairer, safer environment for our families and neighbors.
