Demand removal of Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro

Demand removal of Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro
The Issue
My name is Alyssa Phillip, and like many citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, I am deeply concerned about the integrity of our police service following a tragic event that has shattered the trust of countless individuals in our community. Recently, our nation was rocked by the heart-wrenching news of the murder of Joshua Samaroo, a young man who was surrendering, and the critical injury of his common-law wife, Kaia Sealy, by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. Despite these appalling acts of brutality, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has refused to suspend the officers involved, leaving us questioning the safety and protection meant to be provided by law enforcement.
Police brutality is an issue that strikes fear into the hearts of citizens. When those charged with safeguarding our rights abuse their power, it undermines the very foundations of democracy and justice. Having a person like Allister Guevarro in a position of such authority, someone who seems uncommitted to accountability, only deepens the crisis within our police service.
To restore faith in our police force, a decisive action is required now. We demand the immediate removal of Commissioner Guevarro. A change in leadership is imperative to uphold the principles of accountability and justice, crucial for rebuilding trust between the police and the people they are meant to serve. Removing Guevarro from his position sends a strong message that police brutality will not be tolerated.
Moreover, ousting Commissioner Guevarro paves the way for a reform in the police service that prioritizes ethics and accountability. It is high time for an administration that prioritizes the wellbeing of its citizens and pursues justice diligently and impartially. Our nation deserves law enforcement officials who lead by example, showing zero tolerance for those who abuse their power.
I urge you to support this cause by signing this petition. Let us ensure that the voices of those who seek justice are heard loud and clear. Together, we can strive for a future where the residents of Trinidad and Tobago feel safe and protected by those who serve them.
