Shirley Ioerger was born legally blind and deaf but neither of these disabilities stopped her from working diligently every day for twenty-eight years. Not a single day of work did she miss, contributing to her Social Security benefits. But four months ago, payments stopped coming. Not by accident, but through the incompetence of the Social Security Administration (SSA), which currently owes Shirley a total of $9,860.

Having withheld her rightfully-earned benefits, the SSA has forced Shirley into a system of repeated placements in various nursing homes - four in the last eight years - adding to her distress. This, despite Shirley having been a dedicated worker for over twenty-five years. This is more than a personal injustice.
