The Issue

Like many of you, I have been personally affected by the unchecked spread of misinformation on social media platforms. It seems like almost daily, falsified posts are taken as absolute truths by unsuspecting users, causing confusion, misunderstanding, and, at times, harmful outcomes. This growing problem highlights the urgent need for government intervention and regulation.

While social media has undoubtedly been instrumental in connecting us globally and democratizing information, it has also become a fertile ground for the dissemination of unverified and false information. A study by MIT revealed that false news spreads six times faster than true news on Twitter, adding considerable fuel to the fire of misinformation (Vosoughi, S., et al. “The spread of true and false news online,” Science, 2018).

Despite this alarming statistic, there remains a lack of robust regulatory measures governing the operation of these powerful platforms. It is therefore high time our government steps in to implement laws mandifying social media giants to moderate and verify the authenticity of the content being posted on their platforms.

Strong laws would not only hold these platforms accountable but also create a safer, more reliable digital environment for all users. We are asking for the implementation of regulatory measures that will confirm the truthfulness of content before it's disseminated widely.

Every signature is a stride towards a safer internet space. Your support in this pursuit of truth is invaluable. Sign our petition to call upon our government to regulate social media platforms better and put an end to the spread of harmful misinformation.
