As concerned parents, grandparents, and guardians in Baltimore, we are bearing firsthand witness to the inequities and biases of the Maryland Family Court System. Too many instances have occurred where parents and grandparents are unfairly denied access and stripped of their rights to their own children. Children are unjustly separated from those who love them most, causing emotional trauma. This unjust system's devastating effect on our families is personal to us.

No one should ever experience discrimination in the judicial process, yet many of us share this unjust experience. The family courts are responsible for settling matters that profoundly affect our lives; they should be unbiased and fair establishments that prioritize children's best interests.

Statistics from the National Parents Organization illustrate the national need for reform. In their 2019 shared parenting report card, Maryland received a 'D-' grade, indicating a lack of legislative stability for shared parenting. This low score can substantially contribute to damaging familial relationships and the welfare of our children.

We cannot stand by and let our families suffer. We demand the Maryland Family Court System implement thorough reforms to ensure fair and equal treatment for all parties involved, especially for the children at the heart of these matters.
