Demand Raven Housing Trust restore swift nest site

Demand Raven Housing Trust restore swift nest site
The Issue
We have spent seven years working with the Banstead Swift Colony, tirelessly striving to preserve the natural nesting sites of the common swift. Our dedication led us to install 48 nest chambers, a significant effort to safeguard these incredible birds. Furthermore, we successfully encouraged Raven Housing Trust to install an additional eight nest chambers. However, recent actions by the Trust have jeopardized our efforts and the well-being of this threatened species.
In a concerning move, Raven Housing Trust has permitted their gas contractors, Sure Serve Compliance, to obstruct a natural nest chamber with a flue pipe. This obstruction has detrimental impacts on the common swift, a species now on the red list due to a dramatic decline of approximately 68% since 1995. The dire consequence of allowing such obstructions is the potential extinction of these remarkable birds.
Swifts are an integral part of our ecosystem, providing natural pest control and enriching our biodiversity. The replacement of the flue pipe in its original vertical position is a feasible and necessary step to ensure that the swift population can utilize their natural home safely. It is imperative to act now to prevent further decline and avert the potential extinction of these birds.
We urge Raven Housing Trust to take immediate action by repositioning the obstructing flue pipe to its original vertical position. Such a move not only aligns with their previous efforts to support wildlife but also showcases their commitment to ecological responsibility.
Please support our cause and call on Raven Housing Trust to rectify this situation, for the sake of the common swift and our shared environment. Sign the petition to make your voice heard and protect the future of our swift population.
