Demand Processed Meats be labeled as Cancerous.

The Issue

In 2018 the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) announced that consumption of processed meat is “carcinogenic to humans (Group 1 ),” and that consumption of red meat is “probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A).” (See Full Report ℹ️) or (See above video ▶️) Cigarettes and Asbestos are also Group 1 carcinogens.

Processed meat is any meat that has been preserved through salting, curing, fermenting, smoking, to enhancing flavor or improve preservation. Examples include: bacon, hot dogs, sausage, meatballs, almost all deli meats including turkey, ham, pepperoni, chicken nuggets, boneless wings, canned meat and other cured meats.

It concerns me that these products are known carcinogens, but there are no warning labels letting consumers know of the risks associated with eating these products.

The passing of a law that requires the meat industry to add warning labels to cancerous food products should be a no-brainer, people need to know what they are buying and the known risks associated with it.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. for men and women combined, after lung cancer.  This law could prevent 22,000-25,000 annual cases of colon and rectal cancer.

If cigarettes and other known carcinogens are labeled, why are cancerous food products NOT labeled?
