Demand Optional Meal Plans for Coe College Apartment-Style Housing Students

The Issue

As a deeply disheartened student at Coe College, I am bringing forward this issue that affects not only myself but also many others residing in apartment-style housing. In recent times, the college has imposed compulsory meal plans to students living in this type of housing, despite considerable dissatisfaction with the quality of food served at the campus dining. I believe it's unjust to force students to pay for a meal plan they don't want or need, only to finance their education. Rather than making these meal plans mandatory, the college should dedicate its efforts towards improving their product, thus making it appealing to students. What's more, forcing students to opt-in for these expensive meal plans imposes an unnecessary financial burden on them. By making meal plans optional, students can manage their money more effectively, which is especially important considering that nearly 50% of college students in the U.S. express concerns about their finances, according to MarketWatch. This unfair practice by Coe College needs to change, allowing students the freedom to make choices that benefit their health, wallet, and overall college experience. Please sign this petition and stand with Coe College students to promote freedom to choose their own food plan.
