Demand open competition for International Mr. Leather
Demand open competition for International Mr. Leather
The Issue
For over 47 years, International Mr. Leather (IML) has been a beacon of unity, diversity, and celebration for the LGBTQ+ leather community worldwide. It is an event that has grown not only in size but in significance, playing a crucial role in supporting and fostering the leather community on a global scale. For many, it is more than just a competition; it's a gathering that embodies the spirit of our community, where individuals from various backgrounds come together to express themselves openly and proudly.
Recently, IML ( IMLBB )organizers declared that moving forward, only a limited number of feeder contests would be eligible to send contestants to compete. This decision was made using an arbitrary data formula that has left many long-standing patrons, supporters, and past contestants feeling disillusioned and disheartened. Many contests that have loyally supported IML for years have now been disinvited without any transparent justification.
The implications of this decision threaten the very fabric of inclusivity that IML ( IMLBB )has stood for all these years. By restricting participation, this decision risks alienating parts of the community that have been integral to the event's rich history and vibrant diversity.
We advocate for open participation, where any contest or titleholder wishing to compete can do so. We believe in the power of diversity and inclusivity. Every contestant brings unique stories and values that offer a deeper richness to the IML experience. These voices deserve to be heard and acknowledged, not silenced by exclusionary practices.
We, the undersigned, call upon the organizers of International Mr. Leather/Bootblack ( IMLBB ) to revise this exclusionary policy immediately. We demand the establishment of a transparent and fair method for contest eligibility, one that honors the support and contributions made by contests and individuals over the years.
If the current policy remains unchanged, contestants, sponsors, vendors, and patrons will reconsider our participation and support. The unity and integrity of the IML festival depend on embracing the full spectrum of our community.
Join us in urging IML ( IMLBB ) to uphold its tradition of inclusivity and openness. Sign this petition to demand that International Mr. Leather returns to its roots as an all-embracing celebration of the leather community. Your signature can make a difference in ensuring that every voice in our community is heard and respected.
