The Issue

It is a heartbreaking reality that we personally know adults like Adam and Alicia Fritts. Our community in Vernon County, MO, is shocked and appalled by the recent events involving these individuals. On Friday, March 27th, 2026, Adam and Alicia were arrested due to severe allegations of sexual acts towards Alicia's older children. These are individuals we trusted, making the betrayal even more profound for us, their neighbors, friends, and fellow community members.

Despite the gravity of these allegations, both individuals have been granted the option of posting bail. Adam Fritts is currently being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond, and Alicia Fritts on a $25,000 cash-only bond. Our outrage stems from the fact that the bonds exist at all, and even more so from the stark discrepancy in the amount. How is it that someone accused of such heinous crimes is allowed the opportunity to go free while awaiting trial?

Research indicates that granting bail to individuals accused of serious crimes poses significant risks. According to a report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 20% of violent offenses committed after release on bail are attributed to those accused of similar crimes. Ensuring the safety of our community, especially its most vulnerable members—our children—should be a priority, not permitting potential offenders a chance to reoffend.

We demand that Vernon County officials take immediate action. Adjust the existing policies to disallow bail for those charged with offenses against children. Let us safeguard our children's future and rebuild our trust in the justice system that has the duty to protect them.

Join us in urging Vernon County's judicial system to set a precedent that prioritizes the safety of our community's children. Sign this petition to insist on no bail for those accused of child offenses. Our children deserve a system that values their protection above procedural norms.
