Imagine being held hostage to an unreliable transit system that affects your entire life. I speak from a place of personal frustration, as my husband and I continually bear the brunt of NJ Transit Rail's service irregularities.

My husband boards the 7:13 AM train destined for New York City, a journey of 1 hour and 3 minutes, when his workday begins at 9:00 AM. Yet, he chronically arrives late at his destination due to constant cancellations and unexpected delays. These holdups not only affront my husband's professional responsibilities but infiltrate our personal lives. Postponed evening trains delay our dinner, rob us of our personal time, and lead us to lose sleep. Sadly, we are not the exception. A significant portion of New Jersey’s population experiences similar hardships.

NJ Transit Rail dismissively attributes their service deficiencies to Amtrack, without offering any solutions to mitigate the issue. Enough is enough. It's time we deserve respect and proper treatment as paying customers.

We are calling for Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary, to enforce accountability. We request that NJ Transit Rail reimburses all passengers the full cost of the fare when trains are delayed for more than 15 minutes. This restitution policy will urge them to improve their operations and reduce phenomenon such as chronic delays and cancellations.
