Demand NIPSCO Lower Utility Rates in Northwest IN

Demand NIPSCO Lower Utility Rates in Northwest IN
The Issue
I started working when I was 15. Pursuing my education passionately, I attained an A.S. degree followed by two B.S. degrees in Healthcare, carving a promising career path. Yet, life took an unexpected turn. Over the years, I developed multiple physical disabilities, including enduring a heart attack and a stroke, all by the age of 52. Today, the reality is stark and distressing; I cannot simply rise and work a job like I once could. This reliance on a fixed income has made the rising utility rates charged by NIPSCO a pressing concern for me, many others in Northwest Indiana and others affected by NIPSCO.
NIPSCO's position as a monopoly disregards the very essence of fair competition, potentially infringing upon Anti-Trust Laws. They leave residents with no option to choose a more affordable energy provider. This results in not just financial strain but a challenging dilemma between affording basic utilities or securing food for the family.
In Northwest Indiana, numerous families are increasingly dependent on food pantries as SNAP benefits are slashed. Citizens mustn't face the harrowing decision of whether to eat or keep their lights on. Affordability should be a priority in ensuring everyone’s right to electricity and a dignified lifestyle.
Concrete steps need to be enforced to alleviate this burden; NIPSCO should take accountability and lower their utility rates. This will not only help residents maintain basic needs but will restore a sense of security and well-being.
Join me in urging NIPSCO to act responsibly towards the people of Northwest Indiana, maintaining community trust and well-being. Please sign this petition to demand change and advocate for fair utility rates for all residents.

It is difficult to keep our budget on track when utility bills keep going up. We need a steady affordable plan to keep families like us from struggling because of outrageous pric
Caleb
I can’t believe how much nipsco has jacked up the prices no matter what I do to conserve energy in my home the price just keeps going up, nipsco needs to be held accountable for this.
Caitlin, Merrillville
We have a large household where every dollar counts. These price hikes take food off of our family's plates. What justifies these increases? Investor greed and CEO salaries don't justify placing citizens in a financial choke hold.
Kimberly, Valparaiso
I'm a senior citizen on Social Security and I'm on the budget I pay $75 a month and then you guys raised it to $100 a month. In addition to higher NIPSCO bill now my grocery bill has tripled because of the high prices and I can't drive my car because gas prices are out of control. You guys are not helping the community at all when other rates are down you're raising yours that's absolutely unacceptable.
Dave, Merrillville
Our bill went up more than double and now we're really struggling with bills. I just got a raise at work and then this happened. It's not enough to cover how much the rates went up. There is no viable alternative for us other than to keep forking money over to NIPSCO. Most everyone that I know is outraged over this as well.
Jessica, Our bill this year was $525 for July. This is getting outrageous! How are we supposed to eat, raise kids, pay taxes and live with price increases like this?! Whoever is getting their pockets lined should be ashamed of themselves. Disgusting!
Tatjana
I live in apartment second floor, building. It’s heated over winter and cold down down in the summer by association and I’m still paying $250 or more for Nipsco, I live in apartment it’s not the house it’s apartment second floor.
Mary Kay
Why doesn't the CEO take a salary cut give up a bonus????
Sam
Prices are getting to high and Indiana pay is cheap.
Patrick
Monthly bill has increased by over 50%.
Kimberly
I'm a single mother working 6 days a week, to cover the ridiculous hike on my nipsco bill..this is taking away from spending time with my child who needs me!!!!!!!!!!! I'm struggling, paying this bullsh*t nipsco bill!
Nate
NIPSCO is a Terrible Company full of Terrible People. I know people working there received hefty raises recently. I think they should put there money towards local food banks.
Fred
Nipsco is out of control, they expect us to pay higher prices so they can acquire new ventures in their business plan. We pay high enough rates as it is in the area compared to a lot of other suppliers. Besides whenever there is a storm, we are always the last ones to be put back on the grid because Nipsco picks and choose what areas they want first to be fixed They’ve gotten rid of all their workers they’re down to skeleton Cruse and they got a sub it out to other people to get us back up and going typical corporate greed.
Bethany
NIPSCO rates continue to increase making it impossible to survive. Our bill reached an all time high, taking the last 15yrs in consideration. Have upgraded everything to highest energy efficiency, LED lights, thermal curtains closed, unplugged anything not being used, and yet the bill almost doubled. This is crazy!
Abbe
Our bill went up $229 last month! This is the largest bill we have seen in 25 years, and that was along with raising a family. We do NOT use our utilities like we had in the past. Our power continually goes out days at a time.and when its out we have no electric/water; and it’s usually the hottest/coldest time of the year. We are tired of NIPSCOs poor service. We implore NIPSCO to lower their rates.
Regina
My NIPSCO is outrageous and I live in a apartment Nk way $400 a month bill???
Nancy
This is so true! My bill has doubled recently. I hope this helps.

I choose to be a teacher because I value watching students grow into fine young men and women, achieving their goals and being successful. With this career comes lots of sacrifice, especially salary. Recently, we just found out that our student loans are starting back up at $800 per month (they’ve been $0 since Covid). Now our electricity bill has jumped up $100 per month, keeping the temp set at 74/75 in a 1,600 sq. ft. home. I will continue advocating for what’s right in demanding NIPSCO to lower prices, to be more equitable with other energy companies.

Home in Lowell built in 2021. “energy star” rated stuff in house. All LED bulbs. Bill last month-$740. Absolutely ridiculous. Unsustainable.
J- 550 dollars a month for keeping my AC at 74 and barely using electricity is asinine.
Christine
It's incredible that my nipsco bill doubled!! DOUBLED!!!!!! $505 😭 I don't understand why nipsco would think this is a good idea. People are having a difficult time as it is with the price of everything else. Christine Davis
Kimberly
We are in our 60's and on a fixed income now and can't afford a 700.00 bill .I feel we have no other choice for gas and electricity that's why Nipsco gets away with charging what ever they can ,we need other choices or they need to lower the price.
Cody
Vince Parisi, he’s the Chief Operating Officer of NIPSCO, he’s the one responsible for these types of changes. It’s not just a nebulous corporation, there’s a literal person who makes these decisions or enables them to be carried out. Vince Parisi is A OK with Hoosiers not being able to afford to live and work in our own state. He wants higher profits for deteriorating services, they reinvest just enough into our infrastructure to keep it barely above functional but charge us like they lay new lines for us everyday. Fu*k NIPSCO , fu*k Vince Parisi, and fu*k their profiteering at our expense.
Daniel
My bill went from an 140 to 270 a month. Complete robbery without a gun.
Kyle
Hold all these people accountable: James Huston — IURC Chairman He approved the 2025 decision that approved NIPSCO’s electric rate case and now retiring January 2026. Vince Parisi — President and Chief Operating Officer, NIPSCO Lloyd Yates — President & Chief Executive Officer, NiSource Inc. Melody Birmingham — Executive Vice President & Group President, Utilities at NiSource Other current commissioners involved in the June 2025 approval: • Wesley Bennett • Sarah Freeman • David Veleta • David Ziegner
Jonathon
These prices are insane. Over $700 for my monthly bill! I can barely afford to pay for groceries after this and all of my bills are now behind.
Amber
I am a single parent of three. These hikes are making it hard to make ends meet. I’m risking losing my house because I can’t pay everything that is increasing.
Chris
Absolutely ridiculous rate hike! My monthly bill went up 125% without changing any usage. Can’t afford this, I have a family.
Lynn
There are many residents of Northwest Indiana on fixed and low incomes that simply can not afford the outrageous increase in NIPSCO rates. Too many of us will be having to make life decisions of food or NIPSCO and medication or NIPSCO. More homes are in need of repairs, can’t afford gin;as for trips to the doctor. This is not an affluent area and the residents are hurting. The rate increases and add on fees are out of control and must be reduced.
WHITNEY
Nipsco is out of control with these price hikes. My household can barely afford it along with all the other bills I have.
