The Issue

As JoJo fans, we’ve been waiting years for the Steel Ball Run anime. But our excitement has been completely ruined by an unacceptable decision: choosing the track "Dead or Alive" (performed by Yuki Chiba) as the ending theme.

The issue isn't the singer, it's the main producer and songwriter, Lukasz Gottwald, aka Dr. Luke.

In 2014, singer Kesha sued Dr. Luke, detailing years of horrific sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, including allegations of drugging and rape. While the case ended in a settlement in 2023 after nearly a decade of legal hell for the victim, his history is public knowledge. It is deeply disappointing to see him still getting hired for massive projects like this.

We shouldn't be forced to generate royalties for an alleged abuser just by watching a show we love. Giving him a platform is a massive slap in the face to survivors of abuse and to the entire fandom. Safety and ethics matter more than commercial interests.

We demand that Netflix, Warner Music Japan, and the production committee drop "Dead or Alive" as the closing theme immediately. Replace it with music made by creators who aren't tied to a history of violence and abuse.

Please sign this petition to show that we won't tolerate the anime industry normalizing and paying abusers.
