Demand More Government Resources to Combat Cybercrime and Identity Theft

The Issue

As a victim of identity theft, I experienced first-hand how our personal lives are not secured. Years of my personal information were stolen, and my personal phone and computer were breached multiple times, despite multiple phone and number changes. This personal attack was not only extremely difficult to deal with, but it made me realize that if it happened to me, it can happen to anyone.

In a rapidly advancing tech-savvy world, our government needs to invest more in task forces to infiltrate those who illegally infiltrate our personal lives. We are not only asking to protect our information but also our sanity. This experience has been invasive, frustrating, causing tremendous anxiety and stress.

Crime figures indicate 1 in 15 people have become victims to identity theft as of 2019 (Anti-Defamation League). More than 33% of U.S. adults have experienced identity theft, which is more than twice the global average (Insurance Information Institute). Despite these staggering numbers, our government has not allocated enough resources to combat these sophisticated cybercriminals.

We urge our government to take this issue more seriously. We plead for more task forces and stricter laws against these criminals. Our lives are not just our physical existence anymore, our digital lives matter just as much. We need to protect our data and take control of our digital privacy. Please, stand together and sign this petition to ensure our rights to digital privacy are enforced and upheld.
