The Issue

On February 19, 2025, I faced a heart-wrenching experience that no pet owner should ever endure. My ex-fiancé, in a despicable act of revenge after our breakup, brutally tortured and beat my beloved 3½-year-old miniature dachshund, Jordy. The injuries were so severe that the only humane option left was to put him down. This act of cruelty has left a scar not only on me but also on my children, my family, my friends and the community that cherishes the love and companionship of animals.

As we await the sentencing on September 18, 2025, at 9 a.m. in Reno, NV, I am reaching out to all animal lovers and compassionate individuals to stand alongside me in ensuring that justice is served. Jordy's case is not just about one dog's suffering; it's a pivotal moment to set a precedent for how animal cruelty is addressed in our community.

Animal cruelty is a serious offense that reflects a dangerous disregard for life. In Nevada, animal cruelty is a crime punishable by imprisonment. However, enforcement of the maximum penalties often relies on public support and awareness, which is why your signature is crucial in urging the judge to deliver the maximum sentence to the perpetrator of this heinous act. This is not just for Jordy but for all voiceless animals that deserve protection and compassion.

The pain and loss I've experienced cannot be undone, but together, we can ensure that Jordy's death was not in vain. By signing this petition, you are calling for justice for Jordy and sending a strong message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Reno, Nevada or anywhere else. Please join me in honoring Jordy's memory and helping prevent future acts of cruelty.

Sign this petition today to make your voice heard and to advocate for tougher penalties for animal abusers in honor of Jordy and countless other innocent animals. Thank you for your support and compassion.

The Decision Makers

Christopher Hicks
Washoe County District Attorney
Responded
Good afternoon, Thank you for contacting our Office about this case and sharing your views on sentencing. This Office has always taken animal cruelty cases very seriously and has sought to hold offenders accountable for the abuse they inflict upon animals. This is an active case, with sentencing scheduled for December 11, 2025. While sentencing is ultimately decided by the Court, it is our intention that Mr. Palumbo will be held accountable that day, and the victim (who is the petition starter) will have an opportunity to address the Court if she chooses. Our assigned prosecutor and advocate have been in consistent contact with the victim throughout this case. While we appreciate your offer to arrange a meeting with her, we are already in communication with her, and she knows she may reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns about the case.
