Leicester College recently expelled a student for their activism related to the Palestine issue. This decision has raised concerns about the freedom of speech and expression within educational institutions. The student was actively involved in peaceful protests and campaigns, raising awareness about the plight of Palestinians. Jasmine had been expelled from her position as Women's Officer on the Student Union for trying to hold the Union to account regarding Palestine and freedom of protest prior to her total expulsion from the college. 

It is important that educational institutions like Leicester College foster an environment where students can freely express their views on global issues without fear of retribution or expulsion. We believe that this expulsion not only undermines the values of academic freedom but also sets a dangerous precedent for other students who wish to voice their opinions on contentious issues. Further, the expulsion of the student in question will make her unable to accept her university offers, a devastating setback for a young person who is studious, helpful and engaged in the classroom and outside.
