Demand Kingman City to Recognize Reptiles, Amphibians, and Fish as Protected Animals

Demand Kingman City to Recognize Reptiles, Amphibians, and Fish as Protected Animals
The Issue
My fight started when I rescued a severely starved and abused Bearded Dragon in February 2025 from a so-called local "rescue" which, to my dismay, turned out to be the personal pet of the "rescuer," kept for breeding and horrific negligence. When I reached out to City Animal Control, they stated that the current law doesn't view reptiles, fish, or amphibians as animals hence they are not protected. I am urging fellow compassionate individuals to join me in challenging this unfair and outrageous law.
The City of Kingman currently doesn't recognize reptiles, amphibians, or fish as animals that deserve protection and regulation. This means Animal Control won't intervene in cases of abuse or negligence involving these creatures. This narrow definition is not only inhumane but also out of touch with the broader consensus. According to the Animal Welfare Act in the United States, reptiles, fish, and amphibians are considered animals and are included in laws protecting animals from cruel treatment.
Let's remind Kingman's governing bodies that all creatures-big and small, whether they have fur, scales, or gills- deserve compassion and protection. Changing laws can seem like an uphill battle but a collective voice can bring change. For the love of all our city's abused and neglected reptiles, amphibians, and fish, and for a sense of duties in the rescue I have started, this law must change.
Please sign this petition to implore the City of Kingman to change their current standing law, to start recognizing reptiles, amphibians and fish as animals that need to be protected and regulated by animal control.
