On Sept. 4, a man was captured on video breaking into a West Hollywood home on North Harper Avenue. Inside that home was a small dog — a companion, a family member — who was defenseless. Authorities say the dog was abused and later found dead. The suspect, identified by officials as 27-year-old Anmol Bhatia, is currently being sought.

For animal lovers, this isn’t just another crime story. It’s heartbreaking. Pets depend on us for safety and love. They trust us completely. When someone allegedly enters a home and brutally harms an innocent animal, it shocks the conscience of the entire community.

Animal cruelty is not a minor offense. It is a serious act of violence. California law recognizes this, but laws only matter when they are fully enforced. Our community must send a clear message: cruelty against animals will not be tolerated.

We are calling on Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman to fully prosecute this case and pursue the maximum penalties allowed under California law if the suspect is apprehended and convicted. We also urge the West Hollywood City Council and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to ensure that animal cruelty cases remain a top enforcement priority.

This petition is about justice for one small dog — and protection for every other vulnerable animal who cannot speak for themselves. Studies have shown links between animal abuse and broader patterns of violence, which makes it even more critical that these crimes are taken seriously and addressed decisively.
