Demand justice for the victim of gang rape at Cornell University

The Issue

In our society and on our campuses, we must hold individuals accountable for their actions, especially when those actions are as heinous as gang rape. Yet, in a shocking incident at Cornell University, justice has not been served. Eight Cornell students brutally gang raped an unconscious woman for seven hours. This atrocious crime has not resulted in any substantial legal repercussions.

As of today, no charges have been pressed against the perpetrators. Only two of the accused students have been expelled, while three others merely wrote essays as a form of penalty. This is not just a failure in the enforcement of justice, but also a deep moral failing that cannot be condoned. The trauma inflicted on the victim is unimaginable, and this lack of accountability is an unfathomable injustice. There needs to be an independent investigation of not only the alleged rape, and who should be charged, the police chief and DA need to be investigated as well.

The District Attorney in Ithaca must take immediate action. There must be a full  independent investigation into this case, and charges must be pressed against those responsible for this horrendous act. It is essential for the safety and integrity of our community and for ensuring that the victim's voice is heard and her dignity is restored.

Rape and sexual assault are serious crimes that must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Failure to do so sends a message that such egregious behavior is tolerable, when in fact, it is a violation of human rights and decency.

We are calling on community members, students, and concerned citizens nationwide to demand that the District Attorney in Ithaca take decisive action. We need a legal system that supports victims and holds perpetrators accountable. We need you to make calls to the AG of NY to demand an independent investigation. The current DA has shown he is incapable of conducting a fair and thorough investigation.

Stand with us in demanding justice and safety for students everywhere. Sign this petition to urge the authorities to press charges against the Cornell students involved in this appalling crime and ensure justice for the victim.
