The Issue

My name is Adie Harman. Between September 18th and 21st, 2024, my life changed forever. Chase McGuire, a man I trusted committed an act of profound violence against me. What he took wasn’t just physical, it was emotional, mental, and spiritual. I’ve been left to pick up the shattered pieces of my life while he walks free, thanks to a legal system that feels more focused on the rights of the accused than the safety and dignity of survivors like me.

McGuire was charged with multiple serious offenses:

 • 5 counts of Rape in the 1st Degree

 • 4 counts of Sodomy in the 3rd Degree

 • Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree

 • Attempted Strangulation in the 1st Degree (Non-domestic)

Yet, he was released on house arrest with a $25,000 bond—a sum that does not even come close to reflecting the gravity of his crimes or the devastation he caused. Meanwhile, I am left with a lifetime of trauma, struggling to reclaim my sense of safety and identity.

This is bigger than my story. This is about the thousands of survivors who feel betrayed by a justice system that allows violent offenders to walk free while we are left to face the fallout of their actions.

We cannot stand for this anymore.

This petition calls for:

 1. Reform of the Bond System: Violent offenders, especially those charged with crimes like sexual assault, rape, and strangulation, should not be eligible for release on bond. Survivors should not have to live in fear while their assailants await trial in the comfort of their homes.

 2. Prioritizing Survivor Safety and Support: Implement survivor-centered practices within the court process, ensuring clear communication, expedited hearings, and comprehensive support.

 3. Accountability for Predators: Strengthen sentencing guidelines for violent crimes and ensure that perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions, sending a clear message that our justice system values survivors’ lives over predators’ freedoms.

This fight is about justice for me, and for every survivor who has been silenced, and for a future where no one has to fear coming forward.

By signing this petition, you are standing with survivors. You are saying that their voices matter, their safety matters, and their dignity matters. Together, we can call for a legal system that protects and uplifts survivors rather than excusing or enabling predators.

Help me turn my pain into change. Sign this petition, share my story, and demand that we hold predators accountable. Survivors deserve better. We deserve justice.
