The injustices faced by Nolan Wells and Daniel Erving are not isolated incidents—they are a reflection of a broader, systemic issue dating back to Emmett Till and beyond that demand our immediate attention. Their stories, like those of so many others, are painful reminders of the racial inequities still deeply rooted in our society.
I want to emphasize the importance of watching the full context of my video because it shows the depth of these injustices over 30 minutes, pared down into a 10-minute clip. Every word was meant to shed light on the tragedies these young men faced. Nolan Wells and Daniel Irving represent countless others—young boys who will never see their future weddings, graduations, or even their 18th birthdays.
Justice for them means accountability for those responsible. It means ensuring that the lives of young black men are valued and respected. This isn’t just about two individuals—it's about every young black boy who deserves to grow up safely and with dignity. I am asking you to stand with me and demand justice. We cannot turn a blind eye when injustice anywhere is truly a threat to justice everywhere.
Most recently, the grand jury in Nolan Wells’ case concluded that, based on the evidence presented to it, there was not enough evidence to indict anyone for a criminal offense. A “no true bill” does not mean the grand jury determined that Nolan Wells’ death was an accident, nor does it legally establish how he died and specifically, if credible evidence later emerges suggesting Nolan’s death was non-accidental, the matter should be presented to a Jackson County grand jury again. And separately, the Wells family continues to request a U.S. Department of Justice investigation and greater transparency.
Our demand is simple yet profound: hold those accountable for these injustices, and make a commitment to real racial equity. It’s time to change the narrative.
