The Issue

On February 1, 2025, 19-year-old Imanol Salvador Gonzalez was struck and killed in a hit-and-run involving Carlos Gonzalo Coronel, an LAPD officer. Imanol was left to die alone on the road while the person responsible, an officer sworn to protect and serve, fled the scene without calling for help. Imanol was a funny, loving, caring, positive person. Someone who could light up a room with his energy and make people feel seen and cared for. His family, friends, and community adored him, and his loss has left a hole that can never be filled.

This was not just an accident. This was criminal negligence and a blatant abuse of power. To make matters worse, Carlos Gonzalo Coronel had a prior DUI on his record, a clear warning sign that was ignored. Despite this, he remained on the force, entrusted with public safety. Now, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is pursuing charges, but the potential sentence of only 6 years does not reflect the magnitude of the crime or the value of Imanol’s life.

We demand: - Full prosecution of Carlos Gonzalo Coronel to the maximum extent of the law
- No preferential treatment due to his position in law enforcement
- A sentence that reflects the gravity of his actions and past behavior Imanol’s family, friends, and community deserve justice. Six years is not enough. A young life was stolen, and the system must not fail him twice. Sign this petition to help us bring real accountability and justice for Imanol Salvador Gonzalez.
