To whom it may concern:
On November 26th, 2023 I witnessed 2 accidents. Prior to these accidents the persons involved
I had never met or seen in my life.
I was the passenger in my friend Calvin's car directly behind this white jeep with newer plates on
it. The jeep was driving as if the person driving it did not know how to drive. That jeep crashed
into the rear of the car in front of it as we had to slam on breaks to avoid rear ending the jeep.
The person whose car was hit in front of us jumped out of there vehicle in a fit of rage which is
when the jeep geared into reverse according to the back up lights. When Calvin saw the back
up lights, he put his car in reverse and backed up. That is when the jeep hit the gas (going
backwards) and sped off,in drive turning left off Montrose Blvd. We immediately turned behind
the jeep not following it but traffic was not moving because of the car accident and that was our
way out of the jam. We made the same left as the jeep. Upon making sure the coast was clear
to make the turn we heard a loud crash and saw this jeep flip in front of us and catch fire at the
bottom. Calvin immediately pulled his car over, and we rushed to the victims to render aid since
we were the first responding civilians on the scene.
Upon running to the overturned vehicle there was a young man lying beside the jeep bleeding
and unconscious that I presumed was deceased and a young man in the drivers side of the
truck banging and pushing to get out. Calvin and myself pulled the door open (since the truck
was upside down and on fire) and Calvin pulled the young man from the vehicle.
The young man was bleeding profusely from his head and was out of sorts. He stood over the
young man lying in the street and started crying (repeatedly saying) he had to get out of there,
he had to leave. I advised him he needed to stay, he needed medical attention, and his bleed
was what seemed to me uncontrollable. I asked him his friend's name, and his response was he
needed to leave, he didn't know his friend's name that they had only met that night and he goes
by (Jay). He asked Calvin if he could use his phone to call a friend to come get him and to call
his mom. Calvin gave him his phone to make the calls and after Calvin gave him the phone
Calvin pushed on who we now knew as (Jay) chest giving him a shake and Jay took a really
deep breath.
Calvin ran to the other accident scene which I would say was approximately 50 yards away from
our location because police were already on the scene. He notified the police we had a major
emergency and a young man was thrown from a vehicle clinging to life. I stayed with Jay
constantly calling his name and I did some chest compressions to keep the signal of life going in
him. In these moments the friend that was pulled from the jeep gave me Calvins phone and took
off on foot to a ride that picked him up on the corner of Montrose and the street they turned
down.
Calvin arrived back on the scene with the police who came and rendered aid, relieving me and
asking questions (Did we know the individual laying in the street? Did we know his name? Was
he the only person in the vehicle? Ect.) In those moments I answered all questions notifying himthat we did not know him. There was a young man in the vehicle with him that fled the scene
and he advised all he knew was his name was Jay. The police officer with Jay called and
advised an ambulance was needed immediately and was holding Jay arm for a pulse. Jay's
pulse faded while the police was with him and the police then started doing CPR on Jay. The
ambulance arrived and went to the scene of the first accident. Once the officer got a pulse back
he advised me to stay with Jay and if he stopped breathing again continue compressions that
he needed to go and get that ambulance that arrived as Jay's situation was unknown.
When the officer departed the scene the gentleman that was pulled from the wreckage came
back to the scene and started digging inside the overturned vehicle and said that he needed his
phone out of it and he needed to leave. He asked Calvin to use his phone again to call his
phone that he knew was somewhere on the scene or in the overturned truck. Calvin retrieved
the young man's phone from under the driver's seat of the overturned vehicle. Before the young
man could leave the police was back with EMT personnel and I advised the police that was the
young man that was pulled from the driver's side of the vehicle. The officer pulled the young
man to the side for questioning while I helped EMT get Jay onto a stretcher and was thanked for
my assistance and was told they had it from here.
Thank you,
