The Issue

In the heart of our community in Erie Pa, a deeply concerning case of animal cruelty has come to light, involving a couple charged with heinous acts against a husky named Aimee. The gravity of their actions has sent shockwaves throughout our community, and there is an urgent need for justice to be served. We, the concerned citizens, implore the local judicial system to ensure that the charges against these individuals are not reduced through plea deals and that they face the full extent of the law with appropriate jail time.

Animal cruelty is a serious crime that should not be taken lightly. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), every year, countless animals suffer at the hands of abusers, and it is estimated that over 10 million animals die from abuse in the United States alone. Such statistics highlight the critical nature of holding perpetrators accountable to deter future instances of abuse and neglect.

Allowing a plea deal in this case would undermine the severity of the crime committed and send a dangerous message that animal cruelty is not a serious offense. We must set a precedent that our community does not tolerate such behaviors and ensure that justice is rightly served. By ensuring that the accused face appropriate jail time, we not only seek justice for the victims but also advocate for stronger deterrents against future acts of cruelty.

We urge the district attorney and the court officials to consider the moral implications and community outrage stemming from this case. By refusing to accept a plea deal that reduces charges, the legal system can reaffirm its commitment to protecting those who cannot speak for themselves.

Join us in demanding justice for these innocent animals by signing and sharing this petition. Let us stand together and voice our collective demand for accountability and change in our justice system. Sign now to make a difference!

Aimee's Law - Establishing a Felony Animal Abuser Registry January 26, 2026 Circulated By Senator Daniel Laughlin, R Senate District 49 In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation known as Aimee’s Law. This legislation will establish a publicly accessible registry of individuals convicted of felony animal abuse offenses. This follows the deeply distressing discovery in my district where a six-month-old Siberian husky puppy was discovered abandoned in a crate under freezing temperatures. Ultimately Aimee died despite rescue efforts. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with her abandonment and abuse. This legislation would require individuals convicted of felony animal cruelty or aggravated cruelty to animals to be placed on a registry, similar to Megan’s Law. It will help protect animals and communities, deter repeat offenders, and support enforcement of existing penalties for egregious cruelty that currently result in felony charges. There is evidence that a history of animal abuse can correlate with other violent behaviors, and a registry increases transparency and public safety. Florida recently enacted similar statewide legislation. In 2025, the Florida Legislature passed Dexter’s Law, which strengthens penalties for aggravated animal cruelty and directs the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to maintain a public, searchable database of individuals convicted of animal cruelty offenses. The new registry became operational on January 1, 2026. Please join me in supporting Aimee’s Law addressing an urgent gap in current law by ensuring accountability for serious animal cruelty and offering communities a tool to prevent repeat harm.
