Demand Justice for Andre Howard: 38 Years for a Crime He Didn't Commit

On June 2, 1986, Tyrone Cook was tragically killed following a robbery at a Philadelphia subway station. For 38 long years, our father, Andre Howard, has been wrongly incarcerated for this crime.

He was convicted primarily on the basis of eyewitness testimony—testimony that was riddled with inconsistencies and conflicting accounts. We are closer than ever to having the truth heard, but we need your help now.

Sign this petition to demand that the courts re-examine the deeply flawed evidence in Andre Howard's case and secure his freedom.

The Disturbing Facts That Lead to Doubt

The case against Andre Howard relies on shaky evidence that should never have resulted in a conviction:

Inconsistent Eyewitnesses: Of the three main prosecution witnesses, not a single one maintained a consistent identification of Andre Howard:
Witness Earlene Wright initially described and photo-identified Howard, but then picked a different man, Markus Kilkrady, in a lineup.

Witness Eva Littlejohn first identified a completely different man, Larry Green, stating, "no doubt in my mind it was him." She later identified Howard from a photo array but picked no one out at a lineup.
Witness William Burton initially failed to identify the perpetrator from photographs but later identified Howard at a lineup.

Witnesses Vouched for His Innocence: Two defense witnesses who were at the scene, Wanik Walker and Suad Islam, testified under oath that Andre Howard was not the perpetrator. Walker was certain, stating there was "no doubt" in her mind that he was the wrong man.

Lack of Physical Evidence: The forensic investigator at the scene failed to collect any fingerprints or blood samples, leaving a complete absence of physical evidence to tie Andre Howard to the crime.

Police Pursued a "Look-Alike": A police officer testified that authorities were also searching for another individual, a "look-alike" named Horace/Clarence Archer, for similar crimes in the area.
A review of the evidence strongly concludes that there was insufficient evidence to convict Mr. Howard. The truth is waiting to be heard, and re-interviewing witnesses could finally lead to new evidence and exoneration.

A Pattern of Systemic Misconduct: Andre Howard’s conviction occurred in 1986, at a time when the Philadelphia Police Department was reeling from widespread, systemic corruption and brutality. The key evidence in this case—a conviction secured solely on inconsistent and contradictory eyewitness testimony while ignoring exculpatory evidence and a known "look-alike" suspect—directly aligns with the documented patterns of misconduct, including the coercion of witnesses and the fabrication of evidence, that later led to hundreds of overturned convictions. This historical context compounds the doubt already cast by the facts of the case.
