The Issue

In 1973, David Rodriguez had to witness an unimaginable horror — the murder of his brother, Santos Rodriguez. And worse still, this act was perpetrated not by a common criminal, but by a figure of authority, a police officer named Darrell Cain. The boys were falsely accused of vandalizing a cigarette machine and were unlawfully detained. The memory of that tragic day has haunted David for many decades, taking a significant toll on his mental, financial, and emotional well-being.

The City of Dallas, which should have been responsible for justice and support, has done virtually nothing to address this wrongdoing. No compensation was ever delivered to the grieving family, no adequate support was given to David, who has lived the remainder of his life in the shadow of this traumatic event. His pain and struggle have been overlooked, but we believe it is high time to rectify this.

Not only is this a personal tragedy, but it's also a societal concern. The incident around Santos and David is not an isolated one – cases of police brutality continue to occur today. Recognition, compensation, and systemic changes are overdue.

This petition takes on a personal tone because it acknowledges that David Rodriguez is a victim too. His life, forever scarred by a brutal act he did not commit, should be recognized and compensated. We believe that the City of Dallas must offer support to David in his later years, acknowledging the damage caused and the suffering ensued, and commit to preventing such incidents in the future.

Help us demand justice for David Rodriguez, to ensure he is no longer overlooked or forgotten. Let's hold the City of Dallas accountable for the care and compensation that David, as a forgotten victim of police brutality, rightfully deserves. Sign this petition and support a long-overdue effort for justice.
