Demand Investigation Into Wolf-Killing Policies Before Nesvik Leads Wildlife Protection

The Issue

Brian Nesvik, the outgoing director of Wyoming Game and Fish, has just been nominated to lead the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). But before he takes charge of protecting wildlife nationwide, Americans deserve answers about his record—especially his role in promoting the year-round killing of wolves in Wyoming.

Under Nesvik’s leadership, Wyoming allowed wolves to be killed without limits across 85% of the state. That means wolves could be chased down with snowmobiles, run over with vehicles, or killed even when pups were still in their dens. These are not hunting regulations based on science or conservation—they are extermination tactics. And they were implemented on Nesvik’s watch.

Now, that same man is being appointed to protect endangered species at the national level. How can someone who encouraged the near-eradication of a keystone predator be trusted to uphold the Endangered Species Act?

We’re not asking for partisan politics. We’re asking for transparency, accountability, and a fair investigation before any confirmation moves forward.

If the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is to have any credibility, it cannot be led by someone who oversaw policies that wiped out wildlife rather than protected it. Communities across the country, including Indigenous tribes and conservationists, have spent decades working to restore wolf populations. These efforts cannot be reversed by appointing someone who allowed such extreme and unscientific management.

Tell the Biden Administration and the Senate: Do not approve Brian Nesvik’s appointment until a full, independent investigation is conducted into his wolf management record in Wyoming.

We deserve a USFWS director who will defend our country’s wildlife—not one with a history of destroying it.
