Demand Installation of a Trashcan in Nob Hill Greenbelt for Community Safety & Cleanliness

The Issue

We, a community deeply affected by the increase in littering and waste, are reaching out for support in preserving the cherished Nob Hill Greenbelt. Recently, we are observing not just ordinary litter along the Blue Trail, but an increase in dangerous objects such as fishing hooks left discarded in an area frequented by children, pets, and wildlife. This green belt is not just a park, it is an embodiment of our community spirit, love for nature, and respect for local wildlife. Unsurprisingly, the situation has become unacceptable, often filling several large trash bags during consistent community-led cleanup.

The root cause behind this is a lack of waste disposal facilities near the street side of Crooked Creek. We believe that the addition of a trashcan next to the existing bench/rest area is a simple but effective solution that may convince people to dispose of their waste responsibly. Over 51% of littering happens due to lack of access to a waste disposal facility. (Source: Keep America Beautiful, National Litter Study)

This problem isn't just about aesthetics—it can also harm the diverse wildlife in the area, with dire consequences. According to the National Wildlife Federation, litter can cause life-threatening entrapment or choking hazards to animals, or they can mistake small pieces for food, leading to toxic ingestion. We simply cannot ignore this urgent issue that acts as a direct threat to our local ecosystem and the safety of our children and pets.

Let us work in harmony to restore cleanliness, safety, and respect to our beloved Nob Hill Greenbelt. The City needs to acknowledge our plea and promptly install a trashcan in the area. Stop littering, protect nature, preserve the environment, enhance community safety. Sign this petition today, to show your support for a cleaner, safer Nob Hill Greenbelt.
