Demand Immediate Shutdown and Demolition of All Nuclear Reactors in India

The Issue

I stand before you, deeply convinced that radioactive energy is harmful to human health and safety. The issue we face transcends just my personal conviction. In fact, it reflects widespread concerns about nuclear safety, radiation risks, and long-term environmental impact. India is currently operating 24 nuclear reactors and has 8 more under construction. Such a scale of operation undoubtedly puts countless lives at risk.

According to the World Nuclear Association, nuclear energy causes far fewer deaths than other forms of energy generation, including coal and gas-fired plants. However, accidents like those at Cobalt 60 from Delhi University and Fukushima Daiichi have deeply etched the potential devastation caused by nuclear incidents in people's minds. Moreover, it's not just about major accidents - the everyday operations of nuclear reactors produce radioactive waste, which remains dangerous for tens of thousands of years (source: Nuclear Energy Institute).

Given that India is in a seismic zone, the potential of a nuclear leak due to seismic activity is a terrifying thought. We cannot afford, as a society, to compromise human health and safety by continuing to operate and construct nuclear reactors. This danger combined with the persisting problem of nuclear waste management points to an urgent need to transition from atomic power to more safe and sustainable alternatives.

Let's join hands and pressurize decision-makers to shut down and demolish these nuclear reactors immediately, paving a safer and healthier path for future generations to walk. Please sign this petition today to echo our plea for a radiation-free world.
