Demand Immediate Construction of a Recreational Path in South Stormont, ON

Demand Immediate Construction of a Recreational Path in South Stormont, ON
The Issue
This petition is born out of a tragic accident that touched our hearts deeply. Recently, Charlotte Light, a beloved member of our community in Long Sault, South Stormont, ON, was tragically killed while cycling along HWY#2. This accident highlights a dire need for a safer, more accessible way for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate in between our villages.
A recreational path is the solution to this issue. It is not only a matter of comfort but an essential safety measure. Approximately 70,000 injuries are related to cycling each year, according to Statistics Canada. We cannot let our fellow townspeople become part of this grim statistic. Studies show that communities that focus on providing adequate cycling infrastructure are safer for ALL, drivers and cyclists alike. We need your support to lobby for the immediate construction of a recreational path in between Long Sault and Ingleside, to ensure the safety for all our residents who run, walk, and bike.
By signing this petition, you help give us a voice. Demand that the Counties of SDG, local government in South Stormont, ON, as well as the Ontario provincial government and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission collaborate meaningfully to expedite the construction of this recreational path so that no more lives are lost unnecessarily. Let's strive for a safe community, join us in creating a safer environment for all.
